HEALTH
- Changing ‘Life Style’ -
By Joiz Acharia |

All
over the world, we can now see mushrooming big shopping
malls, chain of super markets and modern food courts/
fast food shops, despite the ongoing controversies over
the entry of big players in to retails sector, even
in villages. A lot of discussions, arguments, are already
aired and still debates are continuing through media
or protest in streets in front of malls or even in legislative
assemblies of state Governments. No doubt, the emergence
of big players will badly affect small shop keepers
as bigger companies have more resources and they arrange
every thing under one roof at competitive rates (?)
and you and I are enjoying the facilities and benefits.

Is it
really benefiting common man?
What are the implications in common man’s life?
Knowingly or unknowingly our ‘Life Style’
is changing; especially our food habits.
Our traditional
healthy food is slowly disappearing. Our kids
and teens prefer to have Hamburgers, French fries, pizzas,
pastry, ice creams, milk shakes, fried meat, and chicken
fry and so on. Many of the traditional healthy food
discarded from the ‘menu list’.
It is
the grave problem.
Medical Research experts found that most fast
food is very dense in calories and the consumer
feel that they are eating no more than an average meal.
Because we tend to assess food intake by the quantity,
yet a fast food meal contains many more calories than
a similar-sized portion of a healthy meal. Our bodies
were never designed to cope with the very energy dense
foods and people can become overly dependent on the
sugar and fat in fast food. High levels of fat and sugar
are not only unhealthy but addictive, which creates
a vicious cycle making it hard for people to choose
healthy food.

Fast
food is usually high in fat, calories, cholesterol,
sodium, and sugar but eating fast food, every once in
a while, is not going to cause problems. But eating
too much fast food over a long period of time, may lead
to health problems. Mushrooming fast food shops in every
nook and corner and it is difficult to escape from these
delicious flavour advertisements and showcases. |

These
shops attract people, especially youngsters and lead
them to over weight or OBESITY and now fast food obesity
has become a major problem for many countries to deal
with.
OBESITY is associated with many health problems and
originates many diseases and has devastating consequences
for health and happiness.
Common man consider obesity is only a body beauty problem
and yet to realize the dangerous health implications.
Fighting against obesity is the noblest act one can
do for him and for his family. Let me give an incident,
from my experience. |
